I’m surrounded by theists in my immediate and extended family and for most of them it’s a very important part of their identities. I have a big extended family (my parents both have 5 siblings, almost all of whom have spouses plus kids, and then there’s my grandparents on both sides as well). I would venture to guess that the belief in God for many people is so hardwired that they are not willing to bring that into question. The lack of connection to the God brain, and our emotional unavailability makes the evaluation of religion to be much more logic based. When examined this way much of religion is difficult to justify belief in. I know many people have a firm grasp on their faith, and I don’t begrudge them what they believe in.
